CORE Tutoring

Where every student is valued and empowered to be successful by improving academic achievement while building skills and self-confidence.

My Values

Tutoring is more than just a job. Each time I take on a new student, I make sure that I get to know the student’s interests, goals and challenges in order to align my teaching practices with the student’s needs and set the student up for success. I do this by tapping into the wealth of strategies I’ve learned and teaching the student appropriate strategies for each specific challenge. I value and respect each student and have a huge desire to make a positive impact.

About Me

Since I was young, I’ve had a love of teaching, a love of learning and a strong connection with children.  I have a fun personality and consistently strive to make learning fun at any age.

With a Bachelor of Education from U.Vic and a Master of Education Degree from UBC, along with many years of teaching experience in a variety of different positions, I have the skills and expertise to help students of all ages achieve success.

I have recently completed the Orton-Gillingham Associates Level One and  Two courses and I’m currently completing the practicum to  become an Orton-Gillingham tutor. However, I have experience teaching and tutoring students at both the elementary and secondary levels.

My teaching experience includes intermediate grades 4-7, elementary and secondary learning support, English as a Second Language, secondary English/social studies/psychology and secondary life skills programs such as the ACESS program.

As a teacher, I consistently demonstrate respect for every student as an individual with many strengths, talents and interests who also has the potential to achieve success no matter what barriers they may face.  I have enabled many students with significant learning disabilities  or those who are neurodiverse to achieve success through teaching them effective strategies to overcome a variety of challenges. The skills I’ve gained through these experiences are valuable in any teaching situation
